Welcoming the Mundo Verde Community

This web site has been created by Mundo Verde as a free resource for teachers, staff, and parents. We recognize that many of us have questions about the effort to have Mundo Verde teachers and staff join the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

This is a choice teachers have to make and we encourage all staff to participate in the election. We hope this website helps people quickly gain access to the information needed to support informed decision-making that honors Mundo Verde’s values, our commitment to innovation and diversity, and our determination to embrace continuous improvement in all aspect of our work. As we teach our students that many voices can help improve a draft, so too we model that all of us can improve how we engage with one another to serve our students and growing community.

Materials will be posted as quickly as possible in response to this fluid situation. If you have questions or comments please let your supervisor know.

The Process Unfolding Now

The fluid situation at the school right now is unfamiliar to almost all of us. We will nonetheless try to provide as much information as we can to give everyone a heads-up. As we get closer to the time when each of us needs to decide whether to vote for AFT or for working together as we have done over the years, we will share as much as we can about specific steps and mechanisms related to this unfamiliar process.

Diverse Voices, One Community

Our unique community is a chorus of individual voices coming together to provide an amazing education to people often excluded. In this section we will share some of the encouraging and thoughtful comments we have received.

The Mundo Verde Way

We are a place of learning and innovation. With respect, a common understanding of challenges, and enough resources we can develop solutions that fit our culture and community. Here we recount some of what has already been done to ensure collaboration: events, materials, internal processes, and our underlying values and mission.

Additional Resources

It can be hard to reflect and pause in stressful moments. Mundo Verde was built and continues to evolve based on what solid research shows to be best for our students – from student/teacher ratios to curriculum to restorative practices. For members of the community seeking a deeper dive to better understand the dynamics of our current situation, we hope these resources will be useful.
